SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 237

Commending Jack Einstein.



Agreed to by the Senate, February 6, 2025

WHEREAS, Jack Einstein, a resident of Clear Brook in Frederick County and a member of the Greatest Generation who served the nation during World War II, celebrated his 100th birthday in 2024; and

WHEREAS, a distant relative of physicist Albert Einstein, Jack Einstein was born in Radford and pursued a career as a civilian employee of the United States Navy; and

WHEREAS, during the first three years of World War II, Jack Einstein worked at the Washington Navy Yard and was responsible for producing breach mechanisms for shipboard guns, as well as refurbishing ships that had been damaged or sunk, including the USS Arizona; and

WHEREAS, Jack Einstein was drafted by the United States Army in early 1944, but was injured during basic training and was assigned as a classroom instructor for the remainder of the war, teaching maintenance for weapons and artillery; and

WHEREAS, after his honorable discharge, Jack Einstein enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve as a pilot, then continued working as a civilian employee of the United States Navy and the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, during his time with the United States Army, Jack Einstein provided his expertise to the team that developed the PGM-11 Redstone tactical ballistic missile; and

WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Jack Einstein settled in Frederick County, and as one of the last surviving World War II veterans in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, he has made it his mission to support and celebrate his fellow veterans; and

WHEREAS, in 2024, Jack Einstein attended 80th anniversary commemorations in France for D-Day, in Holland for Operation Market Garden, and in Belgium for the Battle of the Bulge; and

WHEREAS, Jack Einstein is also a sought-after speaker for local schools and has imparted his sense of patriotism to younger generations of Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Jack Einstein hereby be commended for his service to the nation on the occasion of his 100th birthday; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jack Einstein as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his personal and professional achievements.
