Commending the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., an affiliate of one of the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternities in the country, has greatly served the Prince William County community for many years; and

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter was first envisioned by Curtis Baylor, then Third District representative of Omega Psi Fraternity, who appointed Alexander King of the Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter in Alexandria to establish a chapter serving the Woodbridge area; and

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter held its first meeting on December 7, 2003, and by its third meeting on January 5, 2004, there were 28 members in attendance to sign the organization's charter; and

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter fosters the growth and development of young people by contributing to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's college endowment fund and other scholarship programs; and

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter demonstrates a deep commitment to the well-being of others through its involvement with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's various health initiatives and social action programs; and

WHEREAS, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter inspires others to embrace their civic duty through its involvement with Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's voter registration, education, and mobilization efforts; and

WHEREAS, by making a profound and lasting impact in the areas of education, community service, and philanthropy, the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., hereby be commended for its longstanding commitment to the Prince William County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
