Celebrating the life of Lillian Mary Orlich.

WHEREAS, Lillian Mary Orlich, a passionate educator in the City of Manassas and Prince William County who made lasting contributions to students through her commitment to academic excellence, kindness, and generosity, died on March 7, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Lillian Orlich grew up in Manhattan in New York City, and settled in the Commonwealth in 1950 to begin her long and distinguished career as a teacher; and

WHEREAS, Lillian Orlich taught, counseled, and nurtured generations of young people at Osbourn High School in Manassas and Osbourn Park High School in Prince William County; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as “Ms. O,” Lillian Orlich earned many awards and accolades for her unparalleled commitment to teaching, loving, and caring for young people; she often arrived at school as early as 3 a.m. to prepare for the day and create the best possible learning experience; and

WHEREAS, Lillian Orlich also helped establish SPARK, an education foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, which has developed partnerships with members of the community to provide scholarships and other unique opportunities for students; and

WHEREAS, upon her passing, Lillian Orlich bequeathed $1 million to Prince William County Public Schools to further support SPARK; the generous gift will enhance the organization's programs in social and emotional learning, digital innovation, school improvement, educator preparedness, and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education; and

WHEREAS, Lillian Orlich will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members, friends, colleagues, and former students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lillian Mary Orlich, a highly admired educator who touched countless lives in the City of Manassas and Prince William County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to family and friends of Lillian Mary Orlich as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
