SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 315
Commending the Virginia Electoral Board Association.

WHEREAS, the Virginia Electoral Board Association is a voluntary association of independent electoral boards across the Commonwealth, representing more than five million registered voters, 133 localities, and 2,453 precincts; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Electoral Board Association (VEBA) was established on February 10, 1973, in Lynchburg to support the responsibilities of the local electoral board; and
WHEREAS, in each county and city in the Commonwealth, a three-member electoral board is responsible for the proper and orderly conduct of all elections held in the locality, including the appointment of a general registrar or election director, the preparation of ballots, the administration of absentee ballot provisions, the conduct of the election, and the ascertaining of election results; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years since its creation, VEBA has cultivated strong working relationships with these electoral boards, general registrars, and election directors; and
WHEREAS, VEBA has worked diligently and successfully to facilitate free and fair elections with the highest standard of integrity in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, VEBA has promoted broader participation in elections and facilitated better communication between its members, the State Board of Elections, and other officials at the local and state levels; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Electoral Board Association on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Nunally, president, and Wanda Taylor, first vice-president of the Virginia Electoral Board Association, as an expression of the General Assembly's respect and admiration for their commitment to fair, free, open, and transparent elections in the Commonwealth.
