SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 310

Commending Bliley's Funeral Home.

WHEREAS, Bliley's Funeral Home, a distinguished business that has helped several generations of Richmond families honor and respect the lives of their loved ones, celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2024; and

WHEREAS, Bliley's Funeral Home was established in 1874 by Joseph W. Bliley, Sr., and his brothers, John and Frank, who built their company upon the foundations of compassionate care and exceptional service; and

WHEREAS, Bliley's Funeral Home has remained family owned and operated over the years and currently has both third and fourth generation members of the family in the executive team, including M. Carey Bliley, president and chief executive officer; Norbert M. Bliley, secretary and treasurer; and Eric Bliley, executive manager of family experience; and

WHEREAS, as a result of its sterling reputation and success, Bliley's Funeral Home has grown over the years from its original building at 3rd and Marshall Streets into three locations across the city with a staff of more than 120 associates serving more than 1,800 families every year; and

WHEREAS, for more than a century, Bliley's Funeral Home has been defined by its unwavering commitment to the families it serves, placing families' comfort and concerns in their time of need above all else, which has led many families to rely upon their dependable services; and

WHEREAS, Bliley's Funeral Home has evolved over the years to meet the needs of its customers; in 2012, the business opened a freestanding cremation center in response to the preferences of its clients, which provides a serene and dignified space in which families may gather to remember and pay tribute to their loved ones; and

WHEREAS, by caring for families with the utmost dignity, compassion, and care, Bliley's Funeral Home has made a meaningful and positive impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Bliley's Funeral Home on the occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bliley's Funeral Home as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
