WHEREAS, Vernice Bell Archer, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and member of the Norfolk community, celebrated her 100th birthday on November 24, 2024; and
WHEREAS, an alumna of Norfolk State University, Vernice Archer has given generously of her time and resources over the years for the benefit of her family, neighbors, and the broader Norfolk community; and
WHEREAS, guided throughout her life by her faith, Vernice Archer supported the efforts of the Christian Broadcasting Network in the 1970s and later opened her home to offer vacation Bible school to local children; and
WHEREAS, Vernice Archer's legacy has not only been defined by her longevity, but also by her unwavering commitment to giving back to others, a value that she has passed down through generations of her family; and
WHEREAS, Vernice Archer has demonstrated to others that even small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positive change, touching countless lives in immeasurable ways; and
WHEREAS, in celebration of Vernice Archer's 100th birthday, her family honored her legacy by organizing acts of service that reflected her lifelong commitment to compassionate community care, underscoring the ways in which she has instilled the values of kindness, unity, and selflessness in all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Vernice Archer has embodied wisdom, resilience, and generosity over a lifetime dedicated to enriching the lives of those around her and has made a profound and lasting impact on the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Vernice Bell Archer hereby be commended for her benevolence and good deeds on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vernice Bell Archer as an expression of the House of Delegates' gratitude and admiration for her contributions to Norfolk and the Commonwealth.
