Commending the Campagna Center.

WHEREAS, the Campagna Center, an organization in Alexandria dedicated to delivering exceptional educational and social development programs for children, teens, and adults, celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2025; and

WHEREAS, in 1945, what is today the Campagna Center was established as the Alexandria branch of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA); from 1974 to 1990, the organization was known as the Alexandria Community Y (ACY) after the organization ended its affiliation with the national YWCA; and

WHEREAS, in 1990, the board of directors of the ACY voted to change the name of the organization to the Campagna Center to honor the legacy of Elizabeth Anne Campagna, who served as director of the organization from 1962 to 1985; and

WHEREAS, beginning with self-improvement courses and social activities, the Campagna Center evolved over the years to place an emphasis on programs designed to assist underserved residents in Alexandria, such as a women's correctional program that was started in 1968, a women's resource center that was established in 1979, and a crisis intervention program that began in 1984; and

WHEREAS, today, the Campagna Center offers an array of services to meet the needs of the community, including early childhood education, health and nutrition awareness initiatives, before- and after-school programs, tutoring and mentoring activities, career and college readiness planning, and classes for English-language learners; and

WHEREAS, the success of the Campagna Center is a result of the tireless efforts of the organization's staff and volunteers, who have given generously of their time over the years to advance the organization's mission; and

WHEREAS, the Campagna Center's accomplishments have been made possible by the organization's strong and lasting partnerships with many parents, schools, government agencies, faith-based institutions, corporations, foundations, and individuals in the community; and

WHEREAS, in April 2024, the Campagna Center reopened its newly renovated facility at 418 S. Washington Street, which will greatly enhance the organization's ability to meet the increasing demand for its services; and

WHEREAS, on May 9, 2025, members and supporters of the Campagna Center will gather to honor the organization's 80th anniversary during its annual fundraising gala; and

WHEREAS, by motivating individuals of all ages to achieve their highest potential, the Campagna Center has made a profound and positive impact on the Alexandria community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Campagna Center on the occasion of its 80th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Campagna Center as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's history and its contributions to the Commonwealth.
