Commending Port City Brewing Company.

WHEREAS, Port City Brewing Company in Alexandria won a gold medal with its flagship beer, Optimal Wit, in the Belgian-Style Wit category at the World Beer Cup in 2024; and

WHEREAS, after working for several years at the Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, Bill Butcher founded Port City Brewing Company alongside his wife, Karen, in February 2011, establishing the first brewery in Alexandria since prohibition; and

WHEREAS, Port City Brewing Company earned its first medal at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver in its second year of business and was named Great American Beer Festival Small Brewery of the Year in 2015 after winning more medals at the event than any other brewery in the United States; and

WHEREAS, to date, Port City Brewing Company has won numerous awards at a number of distinguished beer competitions, including 16 medals at the Great American Beer Festival, 23 medals at the Virginia Craft Brewers Fest, 12 Good Food Awards, and five medals at the World Beer Cup; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being a world-class example of a Belgian-style witbier, Port City Brewing Company's award-winning Optimal Wit is the company's best-selling beer and is notably produced exclusively with locally grown wheat from the Northern Neck Region of the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Port City Brewing Company keeps its customers satisfied with a portfolio that includes several varieties of beer that are available year-round, such as its Optimal Wit and Monumental IPA, as well as an array of seasonal and specialty offerings; and

WHEREAS, Port City Brewing Company has brought the Alexandria community together through its tastings, tours, and themed events and by offering a warm and welcoming place in which friends and family may gather; and

WHEREAS, Port City Brewing Company's accomplishments are the result of its leaders' and staff's steadfast attention to detail, unwavering commitment to producing high quality beer, and unflagging dedication to the customer's enjoyment and well-being; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Port City Brewing Company for winning a gold medal at the 2024 World Beer Cup; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Port City Brewing Company as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the company's achievements and best wishes for its continued success.
