Commending the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

WHEREAS, the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., an affiliate of one of the oldest intercollegiate historically African American fraternities in the country, has proudly served the Prince William County community for more than 40 years; and

WHEREAS, chartered on May 31, 1981, the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter supports the community by advancing a number of Alpha Phi Alpha's national initiatives and programs, including Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College; Project Alpha; A Voteless People is a Hopeless People; and Brother's Keeper; and

WHEREAS, through its Ira Dorsey Scholarship Endowment Fund, the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter has provided more than $500,000 to deserving students, helping them to achieve success both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter's Alpha Academy programs at Potomac Middle School and Rippon Middle School in Prince William County offer opportunities for members to mentor young men and guide them in their growth and development; and

WHEREAS, members of the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter give generously of their time and resources for the benefit of others by partnering with the Adopt-a-Highway program, collaborating with the American Cancer Society and the Share Ministry at First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dumfries, and working closely with the March of Dimes; and

WHEREAS, by making a profound and lasting impact in the areas of education, community service, and philanthropy, the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter has helped to make Prince William County a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., hereby be commended for its longstanding commitment to the Prince William County community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robert Blackwell, Jr., president of the Xi Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's contributions to the Commonwealth.
