Celebrating the life of George Thomas Kiser, Jr.

WHEREAS, George Thomas Kiser, Jr., a proud farmer who touched countless lives in Southwest Virginia through his kindness and generosity, died on January 13, 2025; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of the Green Valley area of Russell County, George Thomas “Tommy” Kiser, Jr., graduated from Lebanon High School in 1967 and continued his education by earning a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1971; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Kiser made his career as a dairyman and farmer and was respected for his incomparable work ethic and unwavering commitment to helping others; he was well known as “the Pumpkin Man” at the Abingdon Farmer's Market, where his cheerful spirit and authentic personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met; and

WHEREAS, outside of his career, Tommy Kiser was a talented songwriter and guitar player, and he enjoyed crafting baseball bats in his wood shop; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Kiser enjoyed fellowship and worship with the congregation of Green Valley Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Kiser will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved wife of 51 years, Deborah; his children, Andrea, Nate, and Emily, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of George Thomas Kiser, Jr., a highly admired farmer and dedicated community leader in Russell County; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George Thomas Kiser, Jr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
