Commending Daniel Claiborne Hudson.

WHEREAS, Daniel Claiborne Hudson, a world-class athlete and graduate of Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, retired from Major League Baseball after winning the World Series championship title with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024; and
WHEREAS, during his high school career, Daniel Hudson made the first team all-state squad in 2005 after posting an 11–2 record, a 1.12 earned run average, and a .412 batting average and leading the Princess Anne High School Cavaliers to a Virginia High School League AAA state championship; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Hudson pitched for the Old Dominion University Monarchs from 2006 to 2008, earning All Colonial Athletic Association honors twice and compiling a 20–14 record and 295 strikeouts; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Hudson was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2008 and made his Major League Baseball debut on September 4, 2009, throwing two scoreless innings; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the White Sox, Daniel Hudson would go on to play for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals, and San Diego Padres over his illustrious career in Major League Baseball; and
WHEREAS, on multiple occasions, Daniel Hudson showed remarkable grit and perseverance as he recovered from serious injuries and Tommy John surgeries to return to the mound; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Hudson was pitching for the Washington Nationals at the end of Game 7 of the 2019 World Series when the team secured its first championship title in franchise history; and
WHEREAS, in his final season, Daniel Hudson posted a 3.00 earned run average over 65 appearances with the Los Angeles Dodgers and achieved his second World Series championship title; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Hudson concluded his major league career with a 65–45 record, 855.1 innings pitched, a 3.74 earned run average, 817 strikeouts, and 43 saves; and
WHEREAS, Daniel Hudson has demonstrated what may be accomplished through extraordinary dedication and hard work and brought pride to the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Daniel Claiborne Hudson hereby be commended on the occasion of his World Series victory and retirement from Major League Baseball; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Daniel Claiborne Hudson as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his successful baseball career and best wishes in his future endeavors.
