Commending the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department.

WHEREAS, for 75 years, the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department has provided vital services that have safeguarded the lives and property of the Ivor and Berlin communities in Southampton County; and
WHEREAS, the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department was organized on June 19, 1950, with president E.W. Pittman, first vice president Russell West, second vice president Julian Felts, secretary E.V. Stephenson, Jr., and treasurer H.S. Boone elected to serve as officers and John Faircloth, Jr., Leroy Bracey, Marvin Pulley, Charlie Ramsey, and L. H. Babb appointed to serve as the finance committee; and
WHEREAS, at the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department's second meeting on August 17, 1950, Fred Ashby and J.E. Clarke, Sr., were chosen to serve as fire chief and assistant fire chief, respectively, and the department officially adopted its name and began the process of raising funds, finding a building, obtaining necessary equipment, and developing bylaws; and
WHEREAS, in 1951, the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department purchased its first fire engine from Oren Roanoke Corporation, a 1951 Ford truck with a 500-gallon tank and a pump that could deliver 250 gallons of water per minute, which was housed behind the former Kitchen Service Station on Main Street in Ivor; and
WHEREAS, the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department took up residence in its first building on Railroad Avenue in 1952, expanded this building six years later, then moved to the department's present station on Main Street on December 9, 1987; and
WHEREAS, through the hard work and generous sacrifice of its members, the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department has become a cherished and invaluable institution in the communities of Ivor and Berlin; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department hereby be commended on the occasion of its 75th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Ivor Volunteer Fire Department as an expression of the House of Delegates' high regard for the organization's history and legacy of service.
