Commending Phyliss Bryum.

WHEREAS, Phyliss Bryum, an esteemed educator and community leader, retired from her position on the Suffolk City School Board in 2024; and

WHEREAS, after completing her grade school education in Suffolk City Public Schools, Phyliss Bryum earned a bachelor's degree in social sciences from Barton College; and

WHEREAS, Phyliss Bryum dedicated 46 years to young people in Suffolk as a social sciences teacher with Suffolk City Public Schools, working tirelessly to prepare her students for success both in and out of the classroom; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her efforts and accomplishments as an educator, Phyliss Bryum was named the Suffolk Teacher of the Year in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Phyliss Bryum has served as the Whaleyville Borough representative on the Suffolk City School Board since 2009 and also at times as chair and vice chair, working tirelessly for the benefit of the students, teachers, and families of Suffolk; and

WHEREAS, Phyliss Bryum was instrumental to the creation of several new schools in Suffolk, which will strengthen Suffolk City Public Schools' ability to educate and nurture the division's students for years to come; and

WHEREAS, Phyliss Bryum's commitment to the young people and families of Suffolk has made an impact on countless lives and is deserving of the esteem and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Phyliss Bryum hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement from the Suffolk City School Board; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Phyliss Bryum as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her legacy of service and best wishes in her future endeavors.
