HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 475

Commending the Charlotte County Virginia Angels softball team.

WHEREAS, in 2024, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels softball team made history as the first-ever team from Charlotte County to win the Dixie Softball Angels World Series; and

WHEREAS, on the road to the Dixie Softball Angels World Series, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels softball team won the District 7 championship tournament and went undefeated in the state championship tournament, outscoring opponents 40–5; and

WHEREAS, after advancing to the Dixie Softball Angels World Series, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels continued their winning ways and outscored teams from South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Alabama by 17–6; and

WHEREAS, throughout the tournament, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels worked hard and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and a passion for the game; and

WHEREAS, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels were dominant on the pitcher's mound, with Mallory Barton striking out 78 batters and only allowing four runs and JoLee Layne striking out 56 batters and only allowing three runs; and

WHEREAS, every member of the Charlotte County Virginia Angels—Aubrey Barton, Averie Barton, Emma Barton, Mallory Barton, Kaydence Friend, Alyssa Gosney, JoLee Layne, Marissa Lee, Harley Nelson, Madilynn Tatum, Reece Toombs, and Zytriah Whitehead—contributed to the victorious season; and

WHEREAS, the Charlotte County Virginia Angels were ably led by manager Brian Barton and assistant coaches Jessica Tatum and Katie Layne, and the team enjoyed the unwavering support of the entire Charlotte County community throughout their campaign; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Charlotte County Virginia Angels softball team on winning the Dixie Softball Angels World Series; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Brian Barton, manager of the Charlotte County Virginia Angels softball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
