Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. That the Board of Housing and Community Development (the Board) shall consider adopting amendments to the Uniform Statewide Building Code (§ 36-97 et seq. of the Code of Virginia) to require the installation of natural gas leak detectors in residential buildings with natural gas piping installed. In conducting its review, the Board shall assess the public health, safety, and welfare benefits of adopting such amendments.
