WHEREAS, Shenandoah University, an esteemed institution of higher education that was founded in 1875 in Dayton and that is now located in Winchester, has reached the significant milestone of its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of distinguished service to its students, the community, and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its rich history, Shenandoah University has grown from its humble beginnings as a small institution to become a nationally recognized university, providing a diverse array of academic programs across fields such as healthcare, business, music, arts, and education; and
WHEREAS, Shenandoah University is committed to cultivating an inclusive and dynamic learning environment, fostering personal and professional growth for its students by upholding its values of leadership, service, innovation, and academic excellence; and
WHEREAS, Shenandoah University has not only been a major educational institution but also an essential pillar of the Winchester and greater Northern Shenandoah Valley communities, contributing to the cultural, social, and economic fabric of the region through community service, research, and development; and
WHEREAS, Shenandoah University continues to play a vital role in shaping future leaders through programs that emphasize a global perspective, critical thinking, and ethical responsibility, preparing graduates to contribute meaningfully to society; and
WHEREAS, the leadership, faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Shenandoah University deserve recognition for their dedication, hard work, and vision, which have ensured the institution's continued growth, success, and impact over the past 150 years; and
WHEREAS, as Shenandoah University celebrates this significant anniversary, it looks forward to a future of continued academic innovation, community engagement, and service to the Commonwealth and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Shenandoah University on the occasion of its 150th anniversary for its exceptional contributions to higher education and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tracy Fitzsimmons, president of Shenandoah University, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and appreciation for the university's longstanding commitment to excellence in education and service to the community.
