Commending Midlothian High School.

WHEREAS, Midlothian High School, the home of the Trojans, is an outstanding secondary school located in Chesterfield County that currently serves nearly 2,000 students; and

WHEREAS, what eventually became Midlothian High School began as a school program in a local residence on Salisbury Road; in 1911, the school relocated to a building on Route 60, also known as Midlothian Turnpike, which is now the home of Midlothian Middle School; and

WHEREAS, Midlothian High School became an accredited institution of learning in 1924 and graduated its first class of three students that same year; and

WHEREAS, during the 1984–1985 academic year, Midlothian High School moved to its current location off of Charter Colony Parkway, still within Midlothian; and

WHEREAS, Midlothian High School offers its students a wide array of courses and programs to improve and advance their education, including an International Baccalaureate Program, launched in 2001; and

WHEREAS, in 2019, Midlothian High School was recognized as an overall Blue Ribbon School for Excellence and remains the most recent high school in the Chesterfield County Public Schools system to earn that honor; and

WHEREAS, in 2023, Midlothian High School was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the top school in Chesterfield County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Midlothian High School has won state championships in nearly every sport, including in 2021, when the Midlothian Trojans earned state titles in indoor and outdoor girls' track and field and finished as the state runner-up in girls' cross country, and in 2022, when the girls' volleyball team had an undefeated season on their way to a state championship victory; and

WHEREAS, Midlothian High School has hosted amazing musicals, plays, and concerts, giving young actors, actresses, and musicians their first roles in the world of performing arts; thousands of young performers have advanced to all-county, all-district, and all-state choir, band, and orchestra events, and Midlothian High School has been recognized for its commitment to arts education multiple times; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Midlothian High School hereby be commended for its outstanding commitment to education and to the formation of generations of well-prepared students who have contributed greatly to communities throughout the Commonwealth and the nation; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the faculty, administration, staff, and students of Midlothian High School as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's legacy of service to young people in Chesterfield County.
