A BILL to direct the Department of Social Services and Department of Health to require local departments of social services and local health districts to screen clients seeking services for unmet social needs and refer clients to services for such unmet needs.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Department of Social Services and Department of Health shall require local departments of social services and local health districts to screen clients seeking services for unmet social needs, including for food insecurity, housing instability, and transportation difficulties, using a social needs screening tool approved by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Local departments of social services and local health districts shall utilize existing closed-loop referral technology procured by the Department of Health to facilitate referrals to services for individuals for whom such screening identifies unmet social needs.
